American Family Insurance Headquarters in Madison
Moving to Wisconsin
There are a lot of activities going on with the Rebhorns! First, after three years at Franklin College, Dale has decided to move from Franklin College to a new opportunity in Madison, Wisconsin as a Senior Leadership Consultant with American Family Insurance. Wow! That breaks down into several areas, each of which is worth a few words of explanation: First, leaving Franklin College. This is the toughest one, since the people at Franklin have been good friends and supporters over the past three years. The students he has worked with have been great fun, and the faculty and staff are dedicated and creative in the work of educating students. We’ve started a Makerspace, and student participation in the Leadership programming is high. Leadership Johnson County has a great team, and as an organization, it holds a prominent leadership position itself among programs of community leadership development, with a terrific alumni group. However, Dale and Leslie’s two “kids” and their spouses all live in Madison, and are planning to be there for a while. We love the Madison area and had been looking to move there at some point in the future as part of our longer-term plans. In this case, the long-term came early! The opportunity at American Family is at their corporate HQ and is part of a team that will bring more leadership education to many people in the company, particularly via programs for their emerging leaders. The position required both corporate and educational experience, with subject matter expertise in leadership theory and practice. Dale seemed like a really good fit, and after a few rounds of interviews in April and May, Dale was offered a position. He will be starting there on June 19th, just a few days after closing out the Spring semester at Franklin. (more) |

Fortunately, Dale, Leslie, and Shelby have moved before. The house has been decluttered and put on the market, and we are praying that it sells quickly. There are some nice options for us in Madison for us when we close in Indianapolis. In the meantime, we will be staying with Abby and John who have been very kind to let us use their home as our home while we work out the details. Leslie already has volunteer work as a tutor at a summer program, and Shelby has agreed to share toys for a while with her “cousin” Quinto.
While leaving Indianapolis is bittersweet in some ways, it will be a wonderful opportunity for us to spend more time with the Madison “kids.” Dad R. will still be in Franklin with his many friends at the Methodist community there, so we will not be strangers to Indiana. The summer may be a little hectic, but in the long run we think this new job and place of living will be another great adventure for us. And now you know the rest of the story! |
