What I Am Doing Now

Currently I am the Chief Creative Officer at Tensegrity Studio in Madison, Wisconsin. I am exploring ways to apply leadership skills and creativity to make work a better place for all employees. 

​Simply put, many managers are stuck in old-fashioned and unproductive ways of getting the best out of their teams. It's time to "rethink leadership" and explore new ways of bringing autonomy and purpose to the people with whom they work every day. My goal is to help everyone -- leaders, managers, and individuals -- to be their best.

Where I've Been    

I have visited more than eighty countries and done business in more than sixty countries.  I have worked with universities, organizations, and global enterprises including American Family Insurance, Franklin College, Purdue University, Indiana University - Purdue University at Indianapolis, University of Wroclaw, Victoria' Secret, Dublin City University, Emirates Airlines, Nippon Life, and many others.

My ten years of executive experience includes three years of work in Asia Pacific based from Tokyo, and two years of work in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

There is nothing like the experience of living in another country for an extended time. You develop a greater empathy for other people and gain memories that will last a lifetime. Plus it is great to have friends from around the world!

What I've Done

Previously, I was a Leadership Specialist at the National HQ of American Family Insurance in Madison, Wisconsin. In this role I was responsible for the development and delivery of course and other learning activities to support leaders across the Enterprise. My favorite areas of work were in Leading Change, Coaching, Managing Remotely, and Empowering and Developing Others. 

I have been the Director of Leadership Development at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. I was responsible for the Leadership minor and taught students in four required courses and two electives. 

I also was the Curriculum Director of Leadership Johnson County, a community-based leadership program for people living and working in this county south of Indianapolis. I helped develop and lead activities and programs though hands-on learning, group activities, and special projects. 

During my career at IBM, I worked on dozens of technical projects ranging from small development projects to global IT rollouts.  I led technical teams on a regional and global basis for the more than 20 years as a manager and executive with the IBM Corporation. I also have been responsible for learning and development for 6,000 technical professionals, and have led creative learning programs for professionals on six continents.

I am currently doing research in using MOOCs and crowdsourcing to develop new ways of extending and improving learning outside of the traditional face-to-face and classroom models.

I have started a new initiative, the Lewis and Clark Project, which will reframe the journals of Lewis and Clark using modern technologies.  Participants will be able to visit the daily blog of the Lewis and Clark expedition as it travels in real time, but they will be able to participate by socialsourcing photos and stories, asking questions, and sharing ideas. (ON HOLD BUT STAY TUNED!) 

I am also investigating how to build a model to connect travelers and students to information about historical, literary, and artistic topics.  Imagine tracing the history of Maria Theresa and her children through Europe, or the development of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural thinking by visiting his most famous buildings.
